Thunderstorm Warning in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm warning, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 11 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 5 nautical miles of the airport.

A thunderstorm advisory is in effect until 12 a.m. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. 

Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing lightning. If outdoors, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 5 p.m. Sunday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected. Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

JIC Recovery Release No. 121 - FEMA Opens Additional Local Hire Positions; Job Fair Scheduled for November 1

As Guam residents continue the journey toward recovery from Typhoon Mawar, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is opening additional Local Hire positions to help the community recover and rebuild.

FEMA is looking for Local Hires in Guam with experience in Public Assistance site inspection. To apply online and learn more, visit USAjobs.gov and search for FEMA positions in Guam. Please stay tuned for potential future postings as needed.

GHS/OCD Hosts Instructional Presentation and Evaluation Skills Training

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency National Emergency Training Center, will host the Instructional Presentation and Evaluation Skills (L0141) training on October 30 – November 3, 2023, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights.

Dangerous Surf and Hazardous Seas through Thursday

 

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam until 6 p.m. Thursday. Large breaking waves of 10 to 12 feet on west facing reefs and 9 to 11 feet on south facing reefs are expected. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

JIC Release No. 13 - Guam in COR 4; Stay Out of the Water; GSWA Update; GFD Fuel Container Waiver Rescinded

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Adm. Gregory Huffman declared Guam in Condition of Readiness (COR) 4 at 10 a.m. today, October 11, 2023. Government of Guam operations resume at 10 a.m. 

Governor Leon Guerrero conducted an assessment at first daylight. All major thoroughfares were clear of any major debris and accessible. The community is reminded to conduct assessments around their homes in a safe manner. 

JIC Release No. 12 - COR 4 Anticipated by 10 AM Wednesday Morning; Assessments to be Made at First Light

Guam remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 1 at this time. The community is advised to remain indoors until COR 4 is announced. 

 

As of 7 p.m., Typhoon Bolaven was located near 14.8 degrees north latitude and 145.4 degrees east longitude, about 90 miles north-northwest of Guam, moving northwest at 14 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. Bolaven is passing between Rota and Tinian and is now entering the Philippine Sea. Bolaven`s motion will slowly pull it away from Tinian and Saipan overnight.
