11:55 a.m. Tsunami Advisory Canceled for Guam and CNMI

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2, that was later downgraded to M 7.8, that occurred 24 km WSW of Burias, Philippines with a depth of 25.0 km, at 9:37 a.m. (ChST).

 As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the tsunami advisory is no longer in effect for Guam and the CNMI. Based on available data, there is no tsunami threat to Guam and the CNMI. However, strong currents can still occur.

 A beach hazards statement and high risk of rip currents remain in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 2 p.m. this afternoon. Dangerous rip currents and sea level fluctuations along beaches, harbors, and in the coastal waters, remain possible.
