To protect the island’s digital integrity, OHS-OCD and MRFC urge residents to remember: “Sense the Glitch, Verify the Source.” This message encourages the community to look beyond viral content and watch for technical flaws common in AI-generated media.
Sense the Glitch: What to Look For
AI models often struggle to replicate natural movement and subtle real-world details. When viewing suspicious media, watch for:
- The Hand Test: Extra fingers, missing joints, or hands that appear distorted or melting into objects.
- Biological Inconsistencies: Unnatural blinking, mismatched skin tones between the face and neck, or teeth that appear as a single white block.
- Audio-Visual Lag: Lip movements that do not sync with hard consonant sounds like B, M, and P.
- Environmental Warping: Backgrounds that shimmer or distort when a person moves.
- Accessory Flicker: Jewelry, glasses, or hats that flicker, shift, or blend into the skin.
Verify the Source: Before You Share
If a video makes a sensational claim or requests money, pause before sharing. Verify the information through official channels, including verified government social media pages and trusted local news outlets. If it cannot be confirmed by a legitimate, primary source – do not share it.
The community is advised to report any suspicious activity relating to the subject to the MRFC at (671) 475-0400 or via email at mrfc@ghs.guam.gov, following the Department of Homeland Security’s campaign, “If You See Something, Say Something.”
