JIC Recovery Release No. 21 - GFD Update: Temporary Fuel and Burning Exemptions Expire April 30

The Guam Fire Department (GFD) advises the community that temporary fire permit exemptions will expire on April 30, 2026.

Effective Friday, May 1, 2026, the following standard fire regulations will be reinstated:

  • Fuel Storage: A GFD permit is required for the storage of more than 10 gallons of gasoline or 60 gallons of diesel. The temporary 20-gallon waiver will no longer be in effect.

  • Open Burning: All open burning of green waste or debris will once again require a formal GFD burning permit.

Residents are advised to safely utilize or secure excess fuel and cease all unpermitted burning by the deadline. Compliance with these regulations is vital to preventing accidental fires as recovery efforts continue across the island.

To apply for a permit or for more information, contact the GFD Fire Prevention Bureau at (671) 646-8810 or visit your nearest fire station.
