GHS/OCD Host Multiple Online Training Opportunities from NDPTC

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC), will host multiple online training opportunities. All training will be held virtually and are free to eligible participants.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect; Heavy Winds Expected for Guam Community Advised to Seek Shelter

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office have the following advisories in effect:

severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Guam until 9:30 p.m. Around 8:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 23 miles southeast of Mangilao, Guam and is moving west at nearly 45 mph.

JIC RELEASE NO. 327 - Twenty-sixth COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported; GBHWC Crisis Hotline Available 24/7

The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s twenty-sixth COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam last night at approximately 10 p.m. (ChST). The patient was a 10-year-old boy and had underlying health conditions. He tested positive for COVID-19 on September 3, 2020. He is Guam’s youngest COVID-19-related fatality to date.

 

Heavy Wind Expected for Portions of Guam; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and their coastal waters.  

Through 4 p.m., a large area of heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are moving through the region from southern Saipan waters, just east of Tinian, across Rota to northern Guam. These showers and thunderstorms will produce brief heavy downpours, reducing visibilities to less than 1 mile and could produce local flooding.
