High Rip Current Risk — East-Facing Reefs

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect for the east-facing reefs of Guam until 5 PM ChST this afternoon. NWS reports buoy data indicating seas capable of producing surf up to 11 ft along east-facing reefs. Dangerous rip currents can occur with surf of these heights throughout the remainder of today.

Tropical Depression 07W — Update (formerly Invest 92W)
Issued: June 19, 2026 - 1050 ChST

Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan, advises that the weather system previously identified as Invest 92W has been upgraded to Tropical Depression 07W. The system passed south of Guam overnight and is now moving away from the Marianas into the Philippine Sea.

Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advises the public that the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan has issued a Wind Advisory for Guam and a Small Craft Advisory for Guam coastal waters, both in effect until 5:00 p.m. ChST today, Friday, June 19, 2026.

The advisories follow a tropical disturbance south of Guam that has produced higher winds and seas across the area. Conditions are expected to ease this afternoon.

WHAT TO EXPECT

11:55 a.m. Tsunami Advisory Canceled for Guam and CNMI

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2, that was later downgraded to M 7.8, that occurred 24 km WSW of Burias, Philippines with a depth of 25.0 km, at 9:37 a.m. (ChST).

 As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the tsunami advisory is no longer in effect for Guam and the CNMI. Based on available data, there is no tsunami threat to Guam and the CNMI. However, strong currents can still occur.

11:00 a.m. Update: Tsunami Advisory Remains in Effect for Guam and CNMI from Philippines Earthquake

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, a tsunami advisory remains in effect for Guam and the CNMI. Based on available data, there is a potential threat to Guam and the CNMI. Sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could be a hazard along beaches, in harbors, and in coastal waters. 

 What to Expect:

Press Release - OHS-OCD Postpones Routine AHAWS Siren Test

The Office of Guam Homeland Security and the Office of Civil Defense (OHS-OCD) has postponed the routine test of the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens scheduled for this afternoon.

The postponement is due to a delay in the completion of antenna repairs needed to support system testing operations. OHS-OCD is continuing to work with technical personnel to complete the necessary repairs and ensure the system is functioning as intended prior to conducting the test.

2:40 p.m.- No Immediate Threat to Marianas from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.
