High Rip Current Risk — East-Facing Reefs
Issued: June 19, 2026 - 1100 ChST

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect for the east-facing reefs of Guam until 5 PM ChST this afternoon. NWS reports buoy data indicating seas capable of producing surf up to 11 ft along east-facing reefs. Dangerous rip currents can occur with surf of these heights throughout the remainder of today.

CURRENT STATUS
- High Rip Current Risk in effect until 5 PM ChST today
- Hazard area: east-facing reefs of Guam
- Surf up to 11 ft along east-facing reefs

WHAT TO EXPECT
- Life-threatening rip currents capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW
- Stay out of the water along east-facing reefs and heed lifeguard guidance and posted warning signs
- If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current
- Swim in a direction following the shoreline to escape the current
- If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help
