X Flooding is a temporary overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry. Flooding may happen with only a few inches of water, or it may cover a house to the rooftop. There are many possible causes of floods including heavy rain, coastal storms and storm surge, waterway overflow from being blocked with debris, or overflow of levees, dams, or waste water systems. Flooding can occur slowly over many days or happen very quickly with little or no warning, called flash floods.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Fire Weather

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.

Follow directions from local officials. If there are restrictions on water usage, be sure to heed them.

Typhoons/Hurricanes are massive storm systems that form over the water and move toward land. Threats from typhoons/hurricanes include high winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal and inland flooding, and rip currents.

“Hurricanes” form in the Atlantic Northeast Pacific region and “Typhoons” form in the Northwest Pacific Region. These large storms are call cyclones in other parts of the world.

High Surf Advisory In Effect from 6AM Thursday to 5PM Saturday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory, in effect for Guam, from 6:00 am Thursday to 5:00pm Saturday. High risk of rip currents from Thursday morning thru Saturday afternoon.

Large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents expected. South and west facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan.

Press Release - Flood Advisory in Effect Until 430 pm

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam, until 4:30pm this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways.

Doppler radar indicated heavy showers and possible thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Press Release - Thunderstorm Advisory In Effect for Guam International Airport Until 2:00pm

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for Guam International Airport until 2:00pm.

Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 natuical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing occasional lightning.

Mawar Debris Pick-up Begins in Tamuning, Two Additional Villages Scheduled for Service

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Typhoon Mawar debris mission continues to make its way through villages throughout Guam, conducting separation and pickup of Mawar related debris from residential properties. Debris separation crews started today in Tamuning, with the villages of Hagat and Sinajana scheduled to begin next week.

Flash Flood Warning In Effect Until 5:45 pm

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flash flood warning, in effect for North Central Guam, until 5:45 pm this afternoon. Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.6 and 1.4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.8 to 2.6 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Possible Late Wednesday Into the Weekend

The National Weather Service (NWS) and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) continue to monitor Invest 94W, east of Yap and Invest 95W north of the Marianas.

As the pair of invests (95W and 94W) slowly lift northward, the wet monsoon flow now south of 10N will lift toward the Marianas. For the latter half of the week, the Marianas will see increasing chances for heavy rainfall and gusty southwest winds.

Invest 95W continues to lift northward and could become a tropical depression in the next couple of days. Fortunately, 95W will not affect the Marianas.

Press Release - Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Possible Wednesday through Friday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a tropical system, known as Invest 94W. The system is forecast to start to become better organized through Monday and Tuesday as it lifts slowly north out of western Micronesia. Potential is there for a tropical depression strength, to perhaps a lower-end tropical storm, to pass through the region.
