JIC Recovery Release No. 32 - Second Disaster Recovery Center Opened Today; GPA Update; Typhoon Debris Disposal Sites Open; GSWA Update

Second Disaster Recovery Center Opened:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with other federal and local partners, have opened the Guam Community College (GCC), Building E this weekend, as the first Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in response to typhoon recovery efforts. A second DRC opened today at the Dededo Sports Complex.

JIC Recovery Release No. 31 - Governor Leon Guerrero Issues Executive Order No. 2023-04; Typhoon Debris Disposal Sites Open; Utilities Update

Today, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero issued Executive Order No. 2023-04, relative to declaring a state of emergency due to the water supply shortage caused by Typhoon Mawar, and orders such that:

  • Pursuant to 9 G.C.A. § 55.60, individuals should only use water supplied by GWA for authorized uses pertaining to public health, safety and welfare. Specific unauthorized uses provided in Section 55.60 include washing motor vehicles, windows, streets, sidewalks and buildings.

JIC Recovery Release No. 30 - Disaster Recovery Center Open; SBA Business Recovery Center Open; DoAg Update

Disaster Recovery Center Opened:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with other federal and local partners, opened the first Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Guam Community College (GCC), Building E, today. The DRC at GCC will be open seven days a week from 7 am –7 pm. 

Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Late Saturday Night through Monday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a tropical system, Invest Area 98 W, which is expected to lift slowly north as it tracks roughly parallel to the Marianas, west of the coastal waters.

Heavy rainfall is the main concern, with potential for 4 to 8 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts. Additionally, stronger winds on the northern and eastern flanks of the system may give Guam sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts to 45 mph possible with any heavier shower or thunderstorm that develops.

Disaster Recovery Center Opening:

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with other federal and local partners, have announced that Guam Community College (GCC) will serve as the first Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in response to typhoon recovery efforts. FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are accessible facilities and mobile offices you can visit to learn more about FEMA and other disaster assistance programs.

 

JIC Recovery Release No. 26 - Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams to go Door-to-Door; USDA Offers Disaster Assistance

Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams to go Door-to-Door:

Guam residents will start seeing FEMA’s Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) crews in neighborhoods today to help Typhoon Mawar survivors apply for federal disaster assistance and to identify needs within communities.

DSA crews primarily focus on helping underrepresented populations that may be hard to reach by traditional channels. Their mission is to assess, and report critical and emerging disaster needs to FEMA leadership for decision-making purposes. Their essential duties include:

    Business Sector Disaster Damage Assessments:

    Pursuant to the Guam Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, the Bureau of Statistics and Plans (BSP) conducted a Business Sector Disaster Damage Assessment (BSDDA) of Guam’s business/commercial following the passage of Typhoon Mawar.  BSP, along with representatives from the Guam Visitors Bureau, Department of Land Management, Guam Economic Development Authority, Department of Chamorro Affairs and the Port Authority of Guam conducted the BSDDA on May 26-27 and May 30-31, 2023.
