The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a very broad and weak circulation, Invest 95W, south of Pohnpei near 5 degrees north latitude and 157 degrees east longitude.

At this time, there remains high uncertainty on how the system will impact the Marianas, if any. NWS expects this system to drift westward, possibly becoming stationary south of Guam over the weekend. It will continue a wet pattern across Chuuk State, and may lead to some scattered showers across Guam by this Friday and into the weekend.

For those Typhoon Mawar survivors who received initial rental assistance, it’s important to stay in touch with FEMA, as you may be eligible for continued rental assistance. The initial grant is for the first two months. If you have exhausted the initial amount and need more, you may apply for continued assistance in three-month periods – up to 18 months from the President’s major disaster declaration, or November 28, 2024.

In light of decreased demand from Typhoon Mawar survivors, the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 is now open 19 hours daily, with revised hours from 9 p.m. (ChST) to 4 p.m. (ChST) the following day.

Guam residents who registered with FEMA for disaster assistance after Typhoon Mawar are encouraged to stay in contact with FEMA to resolve issues, provide updates on their applications or submit new information.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers debris removal mission comes to a close as contractors completed cleanup of eligible Typhoon Mawar related debris from residential right of way in all 19 villages in Guam.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 1 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing occasional lightning.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), continue to receive reports of local telephone numbers receiving suspicious messages or reported phishing scams from local, domestic and unusual or unexpected international area codes. Most recently, reports identified suspicious calls related to non-existent Amazon orders for electronics.
