Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan Guam has issued a flood advisory for Guam until 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding from excessive rainfall is expected, mainly for central and southern Guam. 

Up to 0.8 inches of rain have fallen in central Guam. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.6 inches are expected over the area. 
 

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

FREE COVID-19 Testing at The Agana Shopping Center Ends on Friday, March 10
Residents who are not experiencing COVID-like symptoms, may seek free COVID-19 testing at The Agana Shopping Center, Suite 223, on Route 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m,  this week through Friday. Last day DPHSS will offer free travel and community testing will be this Friday, March 10. For travel testing, residents may call their private clinics or Northern Region Community Health Center to schedule.

No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from New Zealand Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded and earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 that occurred in the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand, with a depth of 205.7 km, at 4:41 p.m. (ChST)

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands from these earthquakes.  

This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due dangerous surf conditions.

A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 7 a.m. Friday along north facing reefs. Large surf of 8 to 12 feet, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.
