JIC Recovery Release No. 92 - Residential Debris Removal Program Set to Begin

Over the coming weeks, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be working to collect Typhoon Mawar related residential debris from roadsides throughout the island. This is a free program available for all residential properties including apartments, condominiums.

The speed and success of the mission will depend on residents properly sorting the debris prior to contractors arriving. All storm debris must be sorted by residents into the following four categories and brought to the right of way (ROW) within 10-feet of the roadside:

  • vegetative debris;

SBA to Open Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Dededo:

The U.S. Small Business Administration is opening a Disaster Loan Outreach Center to meet the needs of businesses and individuals who were affected by Typhoon Mawar. The center will be located at the Astumbo Senior Citizen Center beginning Monday, July 31, open 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect until 7 p.m. this evening. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between one and two inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of two to four inches are expected, resulting in minor flooding.

 The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a tropical disturbance, Invest Area 91W, centered well south of Guam in Yap State. 91W is expected to pass through Yap State and southwest of Guam into the Philippine Sea as it gradually develops.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of
Advanced Warning Systems


 The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, starting at 3:15 p.m.
