High Wind Event Expected Wednesday for the Marianas; Advisories in Effect

Community Advised to Refrain from Sharing Personally Identifiable Information with Unknown Sources
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), continue to receive reports of suspicious messages on social media of purported businesses seeking Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Most recently, reports include a purported private business on social media claiming to establish a Guam driver’s license for the consumer, in exchange for a large fee. Not all calls or messages from unusual senders should be regarded as suspect.
High Surf Advisory and High Risk of Rip Currents in Effect
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:
A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday along north facing reefs. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, and localized beach erosion are expected.
No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Japan Earthquake
As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from this earthquake.
This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.
Flood Advisory in Effect; Drive with Caution
An urban and small stream flood advisory is in effect until midnight for southern and central Guam. Heavy rain over and east of Guam will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 and a half inches are expected through midnight.
High Risk of Rip Currents and Small Craft Advisory Expected through the Weekend
AHAWS Siren from Ft. Soledad, Umatac Not Connected to Emergency
The Umatac AHAWS siren is NOT connected with any emergency situation and assessments are being made on the system. Future tests of the AHAWS sirens will be conducted on a monthly basis and will typically fall on the first Tuesday of each month, unless it falls on an observed holiday.
Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain
A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Monday. Large breaking waves of 9 to 12 feet are expected for east facing reefs of the Marianas. Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
