Heavy Rainfall Possible Monday; Dangerous Rip Currents Remain through this Afternoon

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Locally heavy rainfall is possible early Monday morning through Tuesday evening.

NWS advised a slowly developing circulation will approach the Marianas from the east-southeast early next week. Periods of locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are possible. Current indications are for 3 to 6 inches of rainfall to occur but some of the higher terrain across southern Guam and Rota could see a few higher amounts.

Wind Advisory in Effect; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

An airport wind advisory is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 6 p.m. this evening. Winds of 15 to 20 knots, with gusts to 26 knots, are possible, especially in heavier showers. Practice caution if traveling in these conditions.  

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous conditions.

GHS/OCD Hosts Continuity Planning and Instructional Presentation Training Opportunities

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host three training opportunities at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights:

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office maintains a high risk of rip currents in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Saturday afternoon along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.  

    Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions.

    Report positive COVID-19 at-home and over the counter (OTC) test results to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) via email: dphss.surveillance@dphss.guam.gov. You must report your positive result within 24 hours and provide the following information:

    No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

    “No immediate threat was assessed for the Marianas from the reported launch,” said Homeland Security Advisor, Samantha Brennan. “GHS/OCD, along with our military and federal partners, will continue to monitor all events in the region.”

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office maintains a high risk of rip currents in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Wednesday afternoon for east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.  

    Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions.

    Wind Advisory Remains in Effect; Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised a wind advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. this evening. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, are expected.

    Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree limbs. Secure items that could become airborne and use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

    Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
