High Surf Advisory in Effect; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory, in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Monday. Large breaking waves of 9 to 11 feet are expected for north and west facing reefs of the Marianas. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday. Hazardous surf of 6 to 9 feet are expected for west and north facing reefs of the Marianas. Dangerous swimming conditions and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

COVID-19 Test Results: 17 New Cases Reported

Press Release - Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 6:30 p.m. this evening. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Agana Heights, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 that occurred 209 km SSE of Isangel, Vanuatu, with a depth of 143.3 km, at 9:04 p.m. (ChST).

     

    As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands at this time.

     

    This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 that struck 184 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 29.4 km, at 2:05 p.m. (ChST).

     

    There were no damages or injuries reported from the nearby earthquake. There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake.
