Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 that struck 227 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 5:49 p.m. (ChST). 

There were no damages or injuries reported from the nearby earthquake. There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. 

JIC RELEASE NO. 1122 - Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 139 New Cases, 15 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 139 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 139 new cases of COVID-19 from 3,626 specimens analyzed from tests administered August 26 – 28, 2022:

 
  • August 29: 27 of 907 test positive for COVID-19

  • August 28: 52 of 1,219 test positive for COVID-19

  • August 27: 60 of 1,500 test positive for COVID-19

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

COVID-19 Test Results: 77 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 77 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,308 specimens collected August 25, 2022. Three (3) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 57,676 officially reported cases, 389 deaths, 446 cases in active isolation, and 56,841 not in active isolation.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 12:15 p.m. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches is expected. 

Through 12 p.m., a series of westward-moving heavy showers and a few thunderstorms will produce periods of brief downpours over Guam and nearby coastal waters. Some of these showers and thunderstorms could be accompanied by lightning and wind gusts to 25 mph.

COVID-19 Test Results: 63 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 63 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,171 specimens collected August 24, 2022. Five (5) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 57,599 officially reported cases, 389 deaths, 425 cases in active isolation, and 56,785 not in active isolation.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1119 - COVID-19 Test Results: 95 New Cases, 22 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Test Results: 95 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 95 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,716 specimens collected August 23, 2022. Eleven (11) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 57,536 officially reported cases, 389 deaths, 434 cases in active isolation, and 56,713 not in active isolation.

Press Release - Flood Advisory Remains in Effect; Avoid Flooded Roads

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office extended the flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 3:45 p.m. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Up to 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall of up to 3 inches is expected. 

Areas impacted are now Chalan Pago, Windward Hills, parts of Talofofo and Tarzan Falls area.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
  • If driving, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads in heavy rain;

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 3:30 p.m. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Up to 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall of up to 1 to 3 inches is expected. 

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
  • If driving, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads in heavy rain;
  • Slow down where water is ponding on the road;

Press Release - Practice Caution in Heavy Showers; Short Term Forecast Issued for Guam

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam and Guam coastal waters. Through 2:30 p.m., heavy showers sit over Tamuning and parts of northern Guam. Although lightning is not detected, a brief thunderstorm is possible.

If driving, be alert for sudden downpours and water ponding on the roads. Mariners can expect low visibilities near these showers.
