High Surf Advisory in Effect Until Saturday Morning;
Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday. Hazardous surf of 6 to 9 feet are expected for west and north facing reefs of the Marianas. Dangerous swimming conditions and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Vanuatu Earthquake
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 that occurred 209 km SSE of Isangel, Vanuatu, with a depth of 143.3 km, at 9:04 p.m. (ChST).
As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands at this time.
This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

Earthquake Recorded
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 that struck 184 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 29.4 km, at 2:05 p.m. (ChST).
There were no damages or injuries reported from the nearby earthquake. There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake.
