9:10 a.m. No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 that occurred 16 km ENE of Yigo Village, Guam, with a depth of 102.0 km, at 8:53 a.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. There were no major damages or injuries for Guam reported from the earthquake.

No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

4:15 p.m. Flood Advisory in Effect for Guam; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 5:45 p.m. this afternoon. Between 0.4 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches are possible through 6:45 p.m.

A flood watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota through Friday night. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Rainfall of 3 to 5 inches is possible over Guam and Rota through Friday afternoon.

The community is advised to take the following precautionary actions:

    2:00 p.m. Fung-Wong Upgraded to Tropical Storm

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor what is now Tropical Storm Fung-Wong. As of 1 p.m., Fung-Wong was located near 10.5N 139.6E, about 405 miles west-southwest of Guam, moving northwest at 14 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. The latest forecast track shows Fung-Wong, passing near or just northeast of Ulithi and Fais in Yap State today. It is expected to intensify over the next few days, possibly becoming a typhoon Friday.

    Conditions for the Marianas

    10:50 a.m. Tropical Depression 32W Moving West-Northwest

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Depression 32W, which has been named Fung-Wong by the Japan Meteorological Agency. As of 7 a.m., Fung-Wong was located near 9.7N 140.6E, about 385 miles southwest of Guam, moving west-northwest at 14 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. The latest forecast track shows Fung-Wong, passing near or just northeast of Ulithi and Fais in Yap State today. It is expected to intensify over the next few days, possibly becoming a tropical storm later this morning or early afternoon.

    3 p.m. Wind Advisory in Effect Thursday to Friday

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a wind advisory in effect for Guam and Rota from 7 a.m. Thursday to 4 p.m. Friday.

    Southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph are expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down. Winds that strong could also make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution when driving on roads with no center barriers, as well as when passing high profile vehicles.


    Preparedness Actions

    1:30 p.m. Periods of Heavy Showers and Gusty Winds Expected into Friday

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring Tropical Depression 32W, located near 8.4N 143.3E, about 365 miles south-southwest of Guam, as of 1 PM. Tropical Depression 32W is nearly stationary, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. It is expected to begin moving toward the northwest tonight and increase in forward speed Thursday. The latest forecast track shows 32W, passing near or just northeast of Ulithi and Fais in Yap State on Thursday.

    Earthquake Recorded

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 that struck 3 km WNW of Dededo Village, Guam, with a depth of 109.9 km, at 1:03 p.m. (ChST).

    As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. There were no major damages or injuries for Guam reported from the earthquake.

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense remind the community that when an earthquake strikes, conduct the earthquake procedure, “Drop, Cover and Hold On” until the shaking stops.

    8:45 p.m. Tropical Depression 32W Forms Well South-Southwest of Guam; Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring Tropical Depression 32W, formerly Invest 90W, located near 9.5N 142.7E, about 310 miles south-southwest of Guam, moving west at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with a decrease in forward speed through Wednesday, taking TD 32W close to Ulithi and Fais in Yap State.


    Expected Conditions
    • Winds: Gusty easterly winds shifting southeast by Wednesday night, with sustained winds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 that struck 192 km WSW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 66 km, at 5:37 p.m. (ChST).

    As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. There were no major damages or injuries for Guam reported from the earthquake.

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense remind the community that when an earthquake strikes, conduct the earthquake procedure, “Drop, Cover and Hold On” until the shaking stops.
