9:05 a.m. No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Indonesia Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.8 that occurred 119 km WNW of Ternate, Indonesia, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 8:48 a.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam and the CNMI from this earthquake.  

This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

GHS/OCD, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with NBG and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

7:30 p.m. No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Vanuatu Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 that occurred 35 km NE of Luganville, Vanuatu, with a depth of 115.8 km, at 6:44 p.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam and the CNMI from this earthquake.

2:55 p.m. No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Tonga Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 that occurred 153 km W of Neiafu, Tonga, with a depth of 237.5 km, at 2:37 p.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the CNMI from this earthquake.

9:20 a.m. Remain Out of the Water Due to Life Threatening Conditions; Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam advised a long period north-northwest swell from a low-pressure system near Japan and a long-period northeast swell northwest of Hawaii continue to produce hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents for the Marianas.

Everyone should remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions and rip currents. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.

12:20 p.m. Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam advised a large northeast swell combined with a north secondary swell, and a nearby shear line will produce hazardous surf along north facing reefs and a high risk of rip currents along north and east facing reefs.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions and rip currents.

Advisories in Effect:
  • High Surf Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan (7–9 ft surf, building to 9–11 ft tonight) until 4 p.m. Monday.

8:35 a.m. Tropical Depression Nuri Expected to Weaken Through Tonight

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Depression Nuri, formerly Invest 95W. As of 7 a.m., Nuri was located 11.0N and 138.8E, 115 miles north-northeast of Yap, 440 miles west-southwest of Guam. It is moving slowly east-northeast with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course through Friday, as it approaches and then passes through the Northern Marianas, near or north of Anatahan. 

2:40 p.m. Invest 95W Upgraded to Tropical Depression Nuri

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor what is now Tropical Depression Nuri, formerly Invest 95W. As of 1 p.m., Nuri was located 10.4N, 136.9E, 100 miles northwest of Yap, about 575 miles west-southwest of Guam. It was moving southwest, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. It is expected to intensify through tonight, possibly becoming a tropical storm overnight, before gradually weaking beginning Friday. 

5:15 p.m. Tropical Disturbance Developing Southwest of Guam to Track Toward Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Invest 95W located north-northwest of Yap. The system is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression as it moves northeast.  As currently forecast, 95W will track through, or near the Marianas to the northwest, in the coming days.

Periods of heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms are possible through the next 48 to 72 hours. Heavy showers and thunderstorms may bring wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph.
