High Surf Advisory and High Risk of Rip Currents in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam has the following advisories in effect:

A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 4 p.m. Thursday. Large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet are expected for north facing reefs of the Marianas. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Thursday afternoon. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.
