The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Depression 32W, which has been named Fung-Wong by the Japan Meteorological Agency. As of 7 a.m., Fung-Wong was located near 9.7N 140.6E, about 385 miles southwest of Guam, moving west-northwest at 14 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. The latest forecast track shows Fung-Wong, passing near or just northeast of Ulithi and Fais in Yap State today. It is expected to intensify over the next few days, possibly becoming a tropical storm later this morning or early afternoon.
Conditions for the Marianas
- Sustained winds of 20–30 mph and gusts up to 35 mph through Friday.
- Heavy rain could bring 4–8 inches through Friday, increasing the risk of flooding and mudslides.
- Advisories in Effect:
- Wind Advisory for Guam and Rota until 4 p.m. Friday.
- Flood Watch for Guam and Rota through Friday afternoon.
- High Surf Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan (9–11 ft surf) until 4 p.m. Friday.
- High Risk of Rip Currents for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Friday afternoon.
- Small Craft Advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan coastal waters (winds 20–25 kt; seas 10–13 ft).
Preparedness Actions
Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary measures:
- Stay up to date with the latest weather information;
- If driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads, slow down where water is ponding on the road;
- Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters;
- Do not camp, park, or hike along streams and rivers. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning;
- Be alert for possible landslides in areas of steep terrain. Report any signs of potential landslides to local authorities immediately;
- Stay out of the water due to dangerous surf and rip currents.
