Heavy Rains Possible this Weekend into Early Next Week; Take Flood Preparedness Actions Now

The National Weather Service (NWS) - Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic forecast for the Marianas as a flood potential outlook.

 

A developing tropical disturbance and its associated monsoon trough will gradually drift west-northwestward over the Marianas Islands for the weekend, generating locally heavy downpours beginning as early as Friday evening through Monday night.

NEWS: GHC gives six families option to move into low-cost rental homes 

The Guam Housing Corp. has units available in its inventory for families and has given six families the option to move into one of them. The homes are located at Lada Gardens and Sagan Linayan in Dededo. 

“These homes are transitional but could be the start of a longer process to get them into permanent housing – hopefully even home ownership,” said Guam Housing Corp. President Chris Duenas. 

JIC Release No. 33 - Plans in Place for Residents that are displaced; no family left behind

As of Monday, September 17, 2018, a total of 293 people (55 families) from across the island, have been using the Astumbo Gym in Dededo as a temporary shelter. The families were displaced due to the impacts from Typhoon Mangkhut.

Emergency response personnel continue to work to get the island back to normal, including helping residents return to their homes.

JIC Release No. 32 - Federal and GovGuam Joint Damage Assessments to Begin Tomorrow (Sept. 18)

Local and federal agencies and partner organizations are starting Joint Damage Assessments tomorrow and are asking the community for their cooperation.

Officials will be working as quickly as possible to complete the assessment, which is a necessary part of the process in a request for federal assistance.

CROP DAMAGE REPORTS

Farmers who are registered with the Guam Department of Agriculture are asked to submit their crop damage report, as a result of Typhoon Mangkhut, to the Agricultural Development Services Division (ADS).
 

ADS will accept crop damage reports daily beginning on
Tuesday, September 18, 2018 up until Monday, October 1, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Farm loss claims will NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER OCTOBER 1, 2018.

ALL 41 GDOE SCHOOLS TO OPEN ON MONDAY

The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) would like to inform the community that classes will resume at all 41 GDOE schools on Monday, September 17, 2018.

The additional schools opening Monday are Harry S. Truman Elementary School, Inarajan Elementary School, Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School, Marcial Sablan Elementary School,Merizo Martyrs’ Memorial Elementary School, Price Elementary School, Inarajan Middle School, L.P. Untalan Middle School, Oceanview Middle School, J.P. Torres Success Academy and Okkodo High School.

JIC Release No. 31 - Response Personnel Work through the Evening into Tomorrow; Stay Safe, Guam

As recovery work continues, in the aftermath of Typhoon Mangkhut, the community are reminded to continue to stay safe:
•    Drive at a slower pace than normal and proceed with caution
•    Provide authorities the courtesy of the road by complying with traffic signs, watching for traffic cones or larger response vehicles
•    Allow the authorities to safely conduct their jobs by allowing enough room on the roadways and at each job site
•    Do not use cellphones while driving
