MRFC Continues to Monitor Reported Phone Scams

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), continue to monitor reports of local telephone numbers receiving calls from unusual or unexpected numbers where the phone rings only once thus prompting a call back.

A snapshot circulating on social media and chat groups reports local telephone numbers receiving one-ring calls from a seemingly local telephone number with a 671 area code. It is important to remember that phone numbers can be “spoofed,” which means imitated so it seems like a local number.

Thunderstorm Advisory Issued for Guam

The National Weather Service (NWS) – Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory in effect until noon today for the Guam International Airport. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.  Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in rainy conditions, allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
