NWS Issues Short Term Forecast for Coastal Waters

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short-term forecast for Guam and Rota coastal waters.

Through 3 p.m., thunderstorms will produce heavy rain and frequent lightning over coastal waters west of Guam, and over coastal waters northeast of Rota. Visibility will be less than one nautical mile in the heaviest rain.

If boating west of Guam or northeast of Rota, take shelter in port if possible. If caught in frequent lightning, seek shelter below decks.

MRFC Closely Monitor International Phone Scam

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), in coordination with local law enforcement, are closely monitoring reports of local numbers receiving calls from international numbers beginning in +881.

In what is referred to as a “Wangiri” fraud, a Japanese word meaning ‘one ring and drop,’ the missed call from an international number prompts people to return the missed call. It is likely a “Wangiri” fraud, a scam that routes people to a premium rate service that can automatically charge the customer.
