Flood Advisory Issued for Guam; Practice Caution While Driving

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas for Guam until 5:45 p.m.

Heavy rain will cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen since midnight. Additional rainfall of one to two inches is expected, resulting in minor flooding for Guam.  

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

144th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 144th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the U.S. Naval Hospital at approximately 10:37 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021. The patient was a 65-year-old male with underlying health conditions and without any verifiable record of COVID-19 vaccination. The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 9, 2021. 

JIC Release No. 6 - Tropical Depression to Pass Between Guam and Rota; Damaging Winds Not Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor Tropical Depression 16W. As of 1 a.m., 16W was located 13.5 degrees north latitude and 147.4 degrees east longitude, about 160 miles southeast of Saipan and 180 miles east of Guam. It is currently moving west at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 25 mph. It is forecast to maintain this intensity through Wednesday. 

JIC RELEASE NO. 753 - Three-day Summary for COVID-19; Seven GDOE Students Test Positive for COVID-19; COVID-19 Vaccinations Continue as Scheduled; Testing Postponed Until Wednesday, August 18

107 new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 1,926 tests performed August 13 – 15:

JIC Release No. 5 - Tropical Storm Watch Canceled for Guam and Rota; Hazardous Seas and Surf Expected Tomorrow; Guam Remains in COR 3

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor Tropical Depression 16W. As of 7 p.m., 16W was located 13.6 degrees north latitude and 149.1 degrees east longitude, about 250 miles east-southeast of Saipan and 290 miles east of Guam. It is currently moving west at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 25 mph. 

16W is expected to maintain this weakened state until it has passed well west of the Marianas by Tuesday, and to the Philippine Sea where there may be potential for some eventual strengthening. 

JIC Release No. 4 - Tropical Depression 16W Continues West; Guam Remains in COR 3; GDOE Open Tuesday, August 17

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor Tropical Depression 16W. As of 1 p.m., 16W was located 13.1 degrees north latitude and 150.6 degrees east longitude, about 360 miles east-southeast of Saipan and 395 miles east of Guam. It is currently moving west at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. 

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Guam and Rota. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are possible Tuesday. Winds are then expected to decrease by Tuesday evening. 

JIC Release No. 3 - Tropical Depression 16W Continues West; Intensification Expected After System Passes Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor Tropical Depression 16W. As of 8 a.m., 16W was located 12.9 degrees north latitude and 152.9 degrees east longitude, about 483 miles east-southeast of Saipan and 477 miles east of Guam. It is currently moving west at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph. 

 

JIC Release No. 2 - TD 16W Continues West; Guam Remains in COR 3; GDOE Schools to End Early Today; Guam Catholic Schools Remain Operational

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor Tropical Depression 16W. As of 5 a.m., 16W was located 12.8 degrees north latitude and 154.4 degrees east longitude, about 523 miles east-southeast of Saipan and 565 miles east of Guam. It is currently moving west at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.
