JIC RELEASE NO. 939 - DPHSS Issues COVID-19 Screening Guide Memorandum

Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, remains a critical component to the overall strategy for COVID-19. Recent testing has put enormous strain on laboratory supplies and the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) has faced unprecedented testing demand to detect and respond to all suspected and confirmed cases in a timely manner.

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 283rd COVID-19-related fatality was found deceased at a private residence on November 1, 2021, and was pronounced dead at the Chief Medical Examiner’s morgue on November 3, 2021. The patient was an 63-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying conditions. He tested positive on October 14, 2021.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

No Immediate Threat Assessed from Reported North Korea Missile Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reportedå

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities which occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital:

  • The 281st COVID-19-related fatality occurred on December 13, 2021. The patient was an 56-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying conditions. He tested positive on September 12, 2021.
