JIC Release No. 3 - Government and School Closures; Flight Cancellations

The Government of Guam will be closed on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, as Super Typhoon Hagibis continues toward the Marianas. The Government of Guam, Guam Department of Education schools, Guam Community College, and University of Guam will remain closed until Condition of Readiness (COR) 4 is announced. DODEA and Catholic schools will also be closed on Tuesday.

JIC Release No. 2 - Guam in COR 2; Emergency Shelters to Open

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has placed Guam in Condition of Readiness 2 as of 6:30 p.m. At this time, Joint Region Marianas and all Department of Defense (DOD) installations will remain in TCCOR 3 as a result of a different threshold for the onset of destructive winds. 

The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) is preparing to open three emergency shelters at 7 p.m. today.

Guam in Tropical Storm Watch; Tropical Storm Hagibis Track Changes Slightly

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor Tropical Storm Hagibis. As of 4 p.m., Hagibis was located 14.2 degrees north latitude and 154.1 degrees east longitude, about 490 miles east of Saipan and 545 miles east of Guam.

Tropical Storm Hagibis is moving west at 21 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. It is forecast to intensify through Monday, possibly becoming a typhoon late tonight or early Monday morning.  

Tropical Storm Hagibis Continues to Strengthen; Make Preparations in Advance

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor what is now Tropical Storm Hagibis.

As of 1 p.m., Hagibis was located 15.0 degrees north latitude and 155.0 degrees east longitude, about 620 miles east of Saipan and 695 miles east of Guam. Tropical Storm Hagibis is moving west at 21 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Hagibis is forecast to intensify tonight, possibly becoming a typhoon early Monday morning. On its current track, it is expected to pass near Anatahan Monday night.

Tropical Depression Upgraded to Tropical Storm Hagibis

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor what is now Tropical Storm Hagibis.

As of 7 a.m., the system was located 15.3 degrees north latitude and 156.9 degrees east longitude, about 745 miles east of Saipan and 820 miles east of Guam. Tropical Storm Hagibis is moving west at 17 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. The tropical storm is forecast to intensify, possibly becoming a typhoon on Monday.

Developing Circulation to Pass through the Marianas Early Next Week

 The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor a circulation located about 1000 miles east of Saipan near 15 degrees north latitude and 161 degrees east longitude.

 The system is currently moving west around 10 mph. At this time, NWS advised model guidance maintains a westward motion to bring the circulation, possibly as a tropical storm, through the Marianas between Saipan and Agrihan Monday night or Tuesday.
