Community Urged to Practice Caution with Calls from Unknown Phone Numbers

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) and the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC) are closely monitoring reports of local telephone numbers receiving calls from unusual or unexpected numbers.

The phone numbers reported are seemingly “spoofed,” which means it is imitated or disguised to appear as a different number. Reports received include international phone calls with area codes 338, 882, or 972. Other numbers may be included but not reported at this time.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) confirmed one positive case of COVID-19 last night and was reported by the Joint Information Center. This case was identified through community testing and did not report contact to a confirmed case. 

An additional case was reported today from the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA). The case reported by GMHA recently traveled and was identified while staying in a government quarantine facility. The case tested positive by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing at GMHA.

One new case of COVID-19 was identified through contact tracing and is associated with a significant cluster. One case recently traveled to the continental United States and was identified while staying in a government quarantine facility. Both cases tested positive by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing at the Guam Public Health Lab and were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

JIC RELEASE NO. 154 - Two Positive Cases of COVID-19 Reported; Profiles of Earlier Confirmed Cases; Returning Guam Residents to be Transferred to Home Quarantine; Expanded Testing Continues

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) from May 30-31, 2020. One is a confirmed case that tested positive by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) and reported household contact to two confirmed cases. The second is a probable case that tested positive through serology testing at Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS).

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Road

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 11 a.m. A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

Two to three inches of rain has already fallen and an additional 1 to 2 inches is expected. This additional rainfall will result in minor flooding.
