JIC Release No. 4 - 20W Upgraded to a Tropical Storm; Guam Remains in COR 3

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam continues to monitor 20W, which has been upgraded to a tropical storm. Guam remains in Condition of Readiness (COR) 3 at this time. 

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 39 to 74 mph, are expected this evening. 

JIC RELEASE NO. 797 - COVID Updates: 183rd and 184th Fatalities, 74 Hospitalized; 101 out of 1,067 Test Positive; SNAP P-EBT Card Issuance Continues

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 183rd and 184th COVID-19-related fatalities occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on September 23, 2021:

  • The 183rd COVID-19-related fatality was a 76-year-old male, vaccinated, with multiple underlying health conditions, who tested positive on September 13. 

  • The 184th COVID-19-related fatality was a 56-year-old male, unvaccinated, with multiple underlying health conditions who tested positive on September 8.

JIC Release No. 3 - Tropical Storm Warning Remains in Effect; Flight Cancelations

A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions, including sustained winds of 39 to 74 mph, are expected this evening. 

As of 4 p.m., 20W was located near 13.2 degrees north latitude and 144.0 degrees east longitude, about 20 miles southwest of Guam and 155 miles south of Saipan. It is moving west-northwest at 17 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. 

Tropical Storm Warning Now in Effect; Take Precautionary Action

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Depression 20W. As of 11 a.m., 20W was located 12.7 degrees north latitude and 146.0 degrees east longitude, about 100 miles east-southeast of Guam and 170 miles south of Saipan. It is moving west-northwest at 14 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. These storms have been producing occasional lightning. Be alert and take precautions as required. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.

For Guam, it is expected to be mostly cloudy with isolated showers, becoming scattered after midnight.
