Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified of two (2) additional COVID-related fatalities reported last week and over the weekend:

Watch for Emergency Warning Signs for COVID-19
In accordance with the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) guidance, individuals who are sick are advised to: 

  • Stay home, except to seek medical care. Call ahead before visiting the clinic/doctor.

  • Monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea and/or diarrhea.

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 6 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required; these storms have been producing occasional lightning. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.

Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified of three (3) additional COVID-related fatalities reported on September 16, 2021:

  • The 172nd COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) on September 15, 2021. The patient was a 69-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions. 

JIC RELEASE NO. 788 - 171st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; COVID-19 Hospital Census: 73; COVID-19 Test Results: 202 New Cases; Clarification on FEMA Team Deployment; Additional Updates

171st COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 171st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City at approximately 12:46 p.m. today. The patient was a 65-year-old female, unvaccinated, with multiple underlying health conditions.

No Immediate Threat Assessed from Reported North Korea Missile Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile off the east coast of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.
