Thunderstorm Warning in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm warning, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 1:45 p.m. Thunderstorms are occurring within 5 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling on wet roads, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.

152nd and 153rd COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 152nd COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) at approximately 10:03 a.m. on September 5, 2021. The patient was a 70-year-old male, unvaccinated, and had tested positive for COVID-19.

Small Craft Advisory Expected through Sunday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a small craft advisory for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan beginning from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

 

Southeast winds of 15 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots and seas of 4 to 6 feet are expected. Conditions will be hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

These storms have been producing occasional lightning. Be alert and take precautions as required. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.

151st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 151st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) at approximately 8:36 a.m. on September 2, 2021. The patient was an 85-year-old female, unvaccinated who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Tropical Disturbance to Pass South of Guam; Showery Weekend Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor a weak tropical disturbance south of Guam, near 10 degrees north latitude and 145 degrees east longitude. This broad disturbance is generating showers and thunderstorms across Chuuk and Pohnpei. Showers are expected to spread to the Marianas this weekend. The disturbance is forecast to move slowly west today through Saturday.
