COVID-19 Test Results: 21 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 from 283 specimens analyzed on April 14, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 47,703 officially reported cases, 354 deaths, 197 cases in active isolation, and 47,152 not in active isolation.

Hazardous Surf and Seas in Effect for the Marianas; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued a marine weather statement for the coastal waters of Guam and Rota. A line of heavy showers, capable of producing gusts to around 30 knots, were located 30 nautical miles west of Agat and moving northeast at 15 knots.

Mariners can expect wind gusts to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, visibilities down to one nautical mile, and possible lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor until this passes.

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 353rd COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on April 1, 2022. The patient was an 82-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster shot, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on April 1.

COVID-19 Test Results: 24 New Cases Reported

Today, DPHSS reported 24 new cases of COVID-19 from 469 specimens analyzed on April 12, 2022. One of the cases reported today is through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 47,655 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 186 cases in active isolation, and 47,117 not in active isolation.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1019 - COVID-19 Test Results: 32 New Cases, 13 Hospitalized; Food Commodities Distribution Continues April 13; 10 Cases with Variants of Concern Identified; Mangilao mAb Treatment Center to Close on Thursday

COVID-19 Test Results: 32 New Cases Reported

Today, DPHSS reported 32 new cases of COVID-19 from 524 specimens analyzed on April 11, 2022. 11 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 47,631 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 221 cases in active isolation, and 47,058 not in active isolation.

Heavy Showers and Gusty Winds Occurring; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised heavy showers and gusty winds are expected arriving first to southern Guam and southwestern Guam and likely moving up the island. Strong gusty winds are expected upon approach.

Expect a torrential gusty downpour. The community is advised to use caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

The following advisories remain in place for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan:

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Storm Malakas as it continues moving northwest.

As of 7 a.m., the system was located near latitude 12.2 degrees north and longitude 136.6 degrees east, about 210 miles north-northwest of Yap and 555 miles west of Guam. It is currently moving west-northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Malakas is expected to head out to the northwest into the Philippine Sea today and tonight.

Wind Advisory Remains in Effect for the Marianas; Practice Caution on the Roadways and Remain Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Storm Malakas as it continues moving northwest.

As of 1 p.m., the system was located near latitude 12.0 degrees north and longitude 139.7 degrees east, about 145 miles north of Ulithi in Yap State and 355 miles west-southwest of Guam. It is currently moving northwest at 29 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.

Preliminary COVID-19 Test Results: 12 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of 12 new cases of COVID-19 from 99 specimens analyzed on April 9, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 47,565 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 329 cases in active isolation, and 46,884 not in active isolation.
