Small Craft Advisory in Effect through Friday; Prepare to Take Action if Flooding Occurs

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a small craft advisory for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday afternoon.

Southwest winds of 15 to 25 knots are expected to move into Guam and Rota coastal waters Tuesday morning, then spread north into Tinian and Saipan waters Tuesday night. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 16 New Cases Reported October 8 - 10

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 from 644 specimens analyzed from tests administered October 7 – 9, 2022:

 

  • October 10: 3 of 180 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 9: 3 of 215 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 8: 10 of 249 test positive for COVID-19

Prepare for Heavy Rainfall; Flood Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A developing monsoon trough combined with a weak tropical disturbance is likely to bring locally heavy rain to the Marianas at times this week.

NWS advised latest model guidance indicates that rainfall through Friday may exceed 6 inches or more at one or more of the islands. The situation is favorable for locally heavy rainfall capable of producing flash flooding across the Marianas.

No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

“There was no immediate threat assessed for the Marianas from the reported launch,” said Samantha Brennan, Homeland Security Advisor. “The community is reminded to remain steadfast in their preparedness for all-hazards.”

Flood Advisory Extended through this Afternoon; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 4:45 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches is expected. All villages will be affected. 

Take the following precautionary actions:
  • If driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads;

Flood Advisory in Extended; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Barrigada, and Andersen AFB. 

Take the following precautionary actions:

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 11:30 a.m. this morning. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected. Between 0.4 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen.

    Some locations that will experience flooding include Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Yona, Talofofo, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

    Take the following precautionary actions:

      Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

      The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 4 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

      If outdoors, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.
