The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor newly named Tropical Storm Sanvu, formerly known as Tropical Depression 01W, as it moves northwest. As of 7 a.m., Sanvu was located 10.0 degrees north latitude and 156.0 degrees east longitude, 335 miles east-northeast of Chuuk, 775 miles east-southeast of Saipan, and 795 miles east-southeast of Guam, moving north-northwest at 7 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high risk of rip currents in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Wednesday afternoon along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.
