Press Release: Weather Preparedness 09-10-24

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office reminds the public, No tropical storm/typhoon watches/warnings are in effect. Tropical storm/Typhoon Watches/Warnings are not anticipated with this event. Invest 95W will most likely pass over or near Guam later today as a tropical depression. It is an organic situation and residents should closely monitor this event.

Current Watches and Advisories:

Flood Watch: Now, through 6AM Friday

High Surf Advisory in Effect until 6am Friday

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued a high surf advisory, in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, through 6 a.m. Friday.

Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet will build to 10 to 12 feet by Wednesday.

Currently along the south facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan. Surf will build to hazardous levels along west facing reefs by Thursday.

Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.

Wind Advisory in Effect from 6am Wednesday to Thursday 6pm

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued a wind advisory, in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, through 6 p.m. Thursday.

South winds of 20 to 35 mph with frequent gusts up to 45 mph are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and few power outages may result.

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Thunderstorm Advisory In Effect for Guam International Airport Until 200pm

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing occasional lightning.

    Flood Advisory in effect until 1:00pm

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory in effect until 1:00pm today affecting Guam with urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall.

    At noon ChST, gauge reports indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
     
    Some locations that will experience flooding include Tamuning, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Hagatna Heights, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Asan, Piti, Santa Rita and Umatac.

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office forecasts heavy rainfall possible Tuesday through Friday night. A developing tropical disturbance, known as JTWC`s Invest 95W, is currently located just north of Weno, Chuuk, near 9N153E. Forecast guidance continues to show a gradual organization as it heads towards the Marianas over the next few days.

    Model consensus indicates the possibility of locally heavy rainfall of 4 to 8 inches across the Marianas. Such rainfall could lead to localized flooding and the potential for flash flooding.

    Press Release: Hydrologic Outlook

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office forecasts heavy rainfall possible Monday night through Thursday night. A developing tropical disturbance, known as JTWC`s Invest 95W, is currently located just northwest of Pohnpei near 8N158E. Forecast guidance continues to show a gradual organization as it heads towards the Marianas over the next few days.

    Model consensus indicates the possibility of locally heavy rainfall of 4 to 8 inches across the Marianas. Such rainfall could lead to localized flooding and the potential for flash flooding.

    Tropical Disturbance Developing in FSM (Invest 95W)

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring a developing tropical disturbance, Invest 95W, near Kosrae, in the federated States of Micronesia. A special weather statement has been issued for Chuuk and Pohnpei States. It remains a possibility that a tropical cyclone, of some intensity, could push through the Marianas next week as 95W heads west-northwest.
