7:00 p.m. Press Release - Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 8:30 p.m. this evening. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected.

Some areas that will experience flooding include Tamuning, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Agana Heights, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

6:40 p.m. Press Release - UPDATE: Tsunami Advisory Canceled for Guam and CNMI

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0, that was later upgraded to magnitude of 8.8, that occurred 133 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia with a depth of 74.0 km, at 9:24 a.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the Tsunami Advisory has been canceled for Guam and CNMI. Based on all available data there is no further tsunami threat to Guam, Rota, Tinian, or Saipan from the earthquake although minor sea level fluctuations may continue.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0, that was later upgraded to magnitude of 8.8, that occurred 133 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia with a depth of 74.0 km, at 9:24 a.m. (ChST).

The Tsunami Advisory remains in effect for Guam and CNMI. Potential impacts include sea level fluctuations, minor flooding of beach and harbor areas, and strong and unusual ocean currents in harbors, bays, and other near shore waters.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0, that was later upgraded to magnitude of 8.8, that occurred 133 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia with a depth of 74.0 km, at 9:24 a.m. (ChST).

The Tsunami Advisory remains in effect for Guam and CNMI.

Remain out of the water. The community is advised to move inland, away from beaches.

Potential impacts include sea level fluctuations, minor flooding of beach and harbor areas, and strong and unusual ocean currents in harbors, bays, and other near shore waters.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0, that was later upgraded to magnitude of 8.7, that occurred 133 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia with a depth of 74.0 km, at 9:24 a.m. (ChST)
Based on all available data, there is a threat to Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, of sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents that could be hazardous along beaches, in harbors, and in coastal waters.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 that occurred 133 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia with a depth of 74.0 km, at 9:24 a.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, a tsunami watch is now in effect for Guam and the CNMI. The tsunami threat to Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from this earthquake is still being evaluated.

GHS/OCD, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with NBG and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.
