JIC RELEASE NO. 910 - Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 71 New Cases, 8 Hospitalized; After-School COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics Begin; Cue COVID-19 Test Kits to be Used at Tiyan Outreach; Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine

Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of three (3) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 271st COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) on December 24, 2021. The patient was a 76-year-old female, vaccinated with underlying health conditions. She tested positive on December 24, 2021.

Special note: The Joint Information Center release will not include COVID-19 test results today, as community test sites were not available on January 1, 2022. Additional results from other clinics will be reported on Monday, January 3.

Governor Leon Guerrero Signs Executive Order No. 2021-32

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Reminded to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised that as expected, trade-winds intensified and will continue through tonight. For the Marianas, it is expected to be breezy today, partly cloudy with isolated showers.  

The following NWS advisories remain in effect:

high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Thursday. Large breaking waves up to 10 feet are expected along north and west facing reefs.
