6:15 p.m. Press Release - Thunderstorm Warning in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a special weather statement for Guam. A strong thunderstorm is over the eastern coast and waters of Guam with frequent intense lightning.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 25 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek harbor immediately until these storms pass. If caught on the open water, stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

A thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 7 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are occurring within 5 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing frequent lightning. If outdoors, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.
