NWS Issues Short Term Forecast and Flood Advisory for Guam

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short-term forecast for Guam from now through 5 p.m..

Thunderstorms with locally heavy showers have produced 1 to 2 inches of rain over portions of northern Guam, especially Tumon. 1 to 3 additional inches of rain along with occasional lightning are expected through this afternoon. Brief local flooding of streams, roads and low-lying areas is likely as the showers pass. Flooding has already been reported in Tumon.

NEWS: President Trump Approves Disaster Declaration for Guam for Typhoon Wutip

Hagåtña – A Major Disaster Declaration was approved for Guam.


Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero submitted a request for federal assistance after Typhoon Wutip struck the Marianas on February 23, 2019.


The request for Public Assistance and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program were awarded:
1. Public Assistance provides grants to state and local governments and certain nonprofit entities to assist them with the response to and recovery from disasters.
a. Public Assistance projects may fall into the following categories:
i. Category A: Debris removal

No Immediate Threat from Reported North Korea Missile Test

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of a launched projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), today.

 

The reported projectile was launched out of the DPRK toward the east and GHS/OCD was informed it posed no threat to Guam or the Marianas.

  

Tropical Disturbance Near Kosrae Expected to Bring Rain to the Marianas Early Next Week

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor a tropical disturbance centered near Kosrae at 4 degrees north latitude and 162 degrees east longitude.

 

The system is now showing signs of movement toward the west-northwest, though the speed of movement is relatively slow. The disturbance is expected to maintain scattered to numerous showers with locally heavy rainfall across Kosrae State through tonight and across Pohnpei State through Friday night.

 

Typhoon Pakyo 2019 Senior Leaders Seminar and Emergency Management Officials Workshop

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the following events at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort:

 

  • Typhoon Pakyo 2019 Senior Leaders Seminar - Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • Typhoon Pakyo 2019 Operations Workshop for Emergency Management Officials, Response and Recovery Decision Makers, and Stakeholders - Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

GHS/OCD, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, May 7, starting at 3:15 p.m.

 

GHS/OCD will test the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) from seventeen (17) locations in conjunction with NBG and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV).”

 

Port Authority AHAWS Siren to be Tested April 23

The Port Authority of Guam (PAG) will conduct a test of the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) siren remotely from the Port location tomorrow, April 23, 2019, between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

 
Residents, visitors and motorists surrounding the PAG AHAWS siren can expect to hear pre-scripted voice messaging announcing the start and end of the test, and the “Alert” tone, which can be heard here: http://www.whelen.com/mass/audio/Euro%20Tones%20Wav%20Files/Alert.wav.
