Heavy Rainfall Remains Possible through Wednesday Night; Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office provided a hydrologic outlook for Guam. NWS advised the upper-level trough expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Marianas this week remains a bit farther north than expected. The trade-wind troughs will continue to affect the region.

These troughs are expected to bring occasional showers to Guam and Rota Tuesday night through Thursday. Heavy rainfall does remain a possibility.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

Potentially Heavy Rainfall Expected Next Week; Be Alert for Advisories

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office provided a hydrologic outlook for Guam. NWS advised a robust upper-level low will interact with a series of trade-wind troughs, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the region next week.  

Occasional heavy showers are expected to begin as early as Monday and continuing through most of the week. NWS advised latest model guidance indicates rainfall amounts ranging from 2.5 inches to over 6 inches are possible during the week, with the heaviest rainfall likely Tuesday through Thursday.
