Press Release - Disturbance Remains a Possible Threat for the Marianas; Heavy Rainfall Expected Monday through Wednesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Invest Area 97W, which continues to organize. As of this morning, 97W was centered about 250 miles west-southwest of Chuuk Lagoon, 200 miles south-southeast of Satawal, near 5 degrees north latitude and 149 degrees east longitude. It is expected to organize over the next 12 to 36 hours, eventually turning north-northwest toward Guam.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 that struck 158 km SSW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 3:53 a.m. (ChST).

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 that struck 149 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 21.5 km, at 8:31 a.m. (ChST).

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 that struck 32 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 54.2 km, at 12:39 p.m. (ChST). 

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 that struck 87 km W of Umatac Village, Guam, with a depth of 136.5 km, at 1:07 p.m. (ChST).
