NWS Issues Special Weather Statement; Tropical Disturbance Expected to Near Guam on Wednesday

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam, issued a special weather statement for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A tropical disturbance is centered about 325 miles southeast of Guam, 335 miles southeast of Rota and 380 miles south-southeast of Saipan and Tinian and has been nearly-stationary for the last 12 hours.

NWS latest computer guidance showed the disturbance to remain nearly-stationary through tonight then brought it on a gradual track to the northwest, nearing Guam on Wednesday. Showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to build across the Marianas on Wednesday and continue through Thursday.

At this time, strongest winds are expected around 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in heavier showers and rainfall amounts between 3 and 5 inches. The worst conditions are expected for Guam and Rota, with slightly less wind and rain on Tinian and Saipan.

Considerable uncertainty on track and timing of passage of the disturbance remains.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind that all care and caution must be exercised by anyone who will be traveling in these conditions.
