Guam Recognized as “StormReady” and “TsunamiReady” Community

The Department of Commerce, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Guam, recognized the hard work that the community of Guam, personnel within the Government of Guam, its agencies, and its partners have invested to meet the high standards of the StormReady and TsunamiReady Programs.
 
 

NWS Issues Wind Advisory

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam has issued an airport wind advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 5 p.m.this afternoon. Winds are expected from the east at 24 to 29 mph with frequent gusts to 36 mph in showers.
 

Preliminary Damage Assessments Underway After Tropical Storm Maria

Pursuant to the Guam Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) and other Government of Guam (GovGuam) support agencies have begun conducting an island-wide Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) following the passage of Tropical Storm Maria (10W), that affected Guam between July 4 – July 5, 2018.

NWS Advisories in Effect

The system the National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam, continues to monitor is now Typhoon Maria and continues to move further away from the Marianas, not posing a direct threat. Although Typhoon Maria has left the Marianas, NWS continues to have the following advisories in effect:
