JIC Recovery Release No. 113 - New Schedule of FEMA Community Outreach

In an ongoing effort to support Guam residents on their recovery journey, FEMA Mitigation specialists are dedicated to offering advice and free tips on how to rebuild stronger and safer against storms at some local stores. Beginning Aug. 26, the Mitigation specialists will follow a new schedule, with a day off on Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. 
   

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 that struck 114km SSW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 34.1 km, at 4:43 p.m.
   

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 5:45 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.6 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.8 to 1.6 inches is expected, resulting in minor flooding.
   

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

 
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 3:15 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required.
   

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

 

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect until 7:30 p.m. this evening. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, resulting in minor flooding.
   

JIC Recovery Release No. 111 - GUAM STRONG: New Project Helps Make Disaster Damaged Homes Safe and Secure

A new project, a coordinated effort between Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense, the Mayors’ Council, and FEMA has been approved to help households impacted by Typhoon Mawar. The initiative, Getting Urgent Assistance Mobilized to Support Typhoon Repairs ON Guam (GUAM STRONG) provides minimal essential repairs to make homes safe, sanitary and functional.
   

JIC Recovery Release No. 110 - FEMA Mitigation Teams Engage with More Than 10,000 Guam Residents

Although the deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance has passed, FEMA’s support for Guam residents’ recovery journey remains steadfast. The FEMA Mitigation teams have been tirelessly working with the survivors to raise awareness about potential hazards, promote preparedness measures, and to emphasize on personal and community involvement in mitigating disaster risks.
