1:20 p.m. Increased Showers Expected Next Week

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam is currently monitoring two tropical disturbances in the region.

The first system, Invest 98W, is a weak, but broad circulation that continues to slowly develop in southeastern Yap State near 7N144E. Heavy, gusty showers are mainly expected across Yap State and Palau the next few days. At this time, no direct impacts are expected for the Marianas from this system.

A second system, currently spanning Pohnpei and Kosrae States, is anticipated to approach the Marianas early to mid next week. Latest model projections suggest increased showers and breezy to potentially windy conditions between Monday and Wednesday. NWS forecasters will be closely monitoring this system and evolving trends.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
  • Those living in flood-prone areas should take action; clear drainage areas and unblock storm drains to minimize flooding;
  • Stay up to date with the latest weather information;
  • When driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads;
  • Slow down where water is ponding on the road.
