Flash Flood Warning in Effect; Avoid Driving through Flooded Roads

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued a flash flood warning for Guam, in effect until 2:30 p.m. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Thunderstorms are producing heavy rain across the area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible.

The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 145th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021. The patient was an 88-year-old male with underlying health conditions and unvaccinated. The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 14, 2021. 
   

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 8 a.m. this morning. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.
