Developing Tropical Disturbance (Invest 98W) Anticipated to Affect Region; Between Friday and Sunday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring a developing tropical disturbance, Invest 98W, near Chuuk. It remains a possibility that a tropical cyclone, of some intensity, could push through the Marianas next week as 98W heads west-northwest sometime Friday.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center has elevated 98W’s potential for development into a significant tropical cyclone to MEDIUM, meaning development is expected, but beyond 24 hrs.

Potential impacts would be sustained winds exceeding 30mph, locally heavy rainfall potentially causing flash flooding, and hazardous surf and marine conditions.

The National Weather Service Guam Weather Forecast Office advises the population to keep a close watch on the latest forecasts and information from the National Weather Service on Guam.
