Tropical Disturbance (Invest 98W); Tropical Cyclone Formation likely within 24 Hours

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring a developing tropical disturbance, Invest 98W, now centered West of Chuuk.

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center has elevated 98W’s potential for development into a significant tropical cyclone to HIGH, meaning development is likely within 24 hrs. Currently, there are no Tropical Cyclone watches or warnings in effect for Guam.

Model guidance shows the circulation passing nearby, Friday into Saturday maintaining gusty showers and thunderstorms in the area.

Potential impacts would be sustained winds exceeding 25-35mph with gusts between 35 and 50mph, locally heavy rainfall potentially causing flash flooding, and hazardous surf and marine conditions.
