Locally Heavy Rainfall Possible; Be Alert for Additional Advisories Through the Week
The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Tropical Depression 16W, located 755 miles to the northwest of Saipan, continues to move slowly to the northeast. As it continues northeast over the next 48 hours, a south to southwesterly monsoon flow will persist across the Marianas over the next few days, with another weak circulation potentially developing Friday near Pagan, which could extend the monsoon flow duration into the weekend.
An area-wide 3 to 5 inches of rainfall, with locally higher amounts is possible, to occur between late tonight and Friday. Flash flood warnings or flood advisories remain a possibility during this time.
Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:
- Stay up to date with the latest information;
- Be alert for watches, warnings, or advisories in the next few days;
- If driving in heavy rain, be alert for low visibilities and slippery roads;
- Slow down where water is ponding on the road;
- Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away;
- Do not camp, park, or hike along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.
