Heavy Rains Expected Next Week;

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect Through This Afternoon

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory for the Guam International Airport Authority, in effect until 5 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing occasional lightning.

Additionally, the NWS issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A tropical circulation is expected to develop near CNMI for the middle to end of next week. Uncertainty remains on where the heaviest rainfall will occur. At this time, Tinian and Saipan look to have the highest potential, where rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches may develop. For Guam and Rota, rainfall totals look to be in the 2-to-4-inch range.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advise the community to stay up to date with the latest information and watch for any additional watches, advisories, or warnings in the coming week.
