Press Release - GHS/OCD Hosts Virtual Training for Improving Natural Hazard Safety for Schools

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the National Earthquake Technical Assistance Program (NETAP), will host the “Safer, Stronger, Smarter: A Guide to Improving School Natural Hazard Safety” (FEMA P-1000) training virtually on Friday, August 5, 2022, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (ChST).

This free web-based training provides information on how to physically protect school facilities and operations before, during, and after a natural hazard event. It also provides guidance for developing a comprehensive strategy to address natural hazard safety in schools.

The target audience for the course include school administrators, facilities managers, emergency managers, emergency planning committees, and teachers and staff at K-12 schools. It can also be valuable for government officials, school boards, teacher union leaders, and others that play roles in providing safe and disaster-resistant schools.
