NWS Issues Short Term Forecast; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam and Guam coastal waters.

Through 8:30 a.m., heavy showers will bring up to an inch of rain and possibly some cloud-to-ground lightning to portions of central and northern Guam and the adjacent coastal waters. Brief flooding of roads and low-lying areas is possible as the showers pass.

If driving, be alert for sudden heavy rain and ponding of water on the roads. Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

thunderstorm advisory is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 11 a.m. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as necessary.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advise residents and visitors to practice caution on the roads, reducing speed especially in heavy showers, and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
